HCL Sametime 11 – Limited Use vs. Standard License

I found that there is a lot of confusion going around which Sametime features are covered in Limited Use License, although I could not find a document or a matrix chart covering this in detail, the following article provides some important insights:

Excerpt of the article:

HCL Sametime 11 Limited Use prohibits the use of the following components:

- File transfer
- Screen capture - Multiple communities - External user - Built-in audio / video function - Integration with external meetings - To ensure compliance with the Limited Use terms, these features must be disabled in policy settings.

Before deploying Sametime 11 Limited Use, make sure that the features important for you are covered in the license. And if one or another function is not working, check with support if it is covered in the Limited Use license in the first place, it might save you some time spent troubleshooting.

UPDATE

My friend, Roberto Boccadoro found the official licensing agreement, thank you very much! You can Access it via the following URL:

Excerpt of the document:

Notwithstanding any provision in the Agreement, Licensee is not authorized to use any of the following components or functions of the Program:

  • Access to File Transfer (of HCL Sametime)
  • Screen Capture (of HCL Sametime)
  • Multiple Communities (of HCL Sametime)
  • External users (of HCL Sametime)
  • Embedded Audio/Video features (of HCL Sametime)
  • External conferencing integration (of HCL Sametime)

  2. And if you have a license you cannot use Embedded Audio/Video features either, at least not with a fresh V11 setup πŸ˜‰
And if you have licensed Sametime Communicate you cannot even download the software because HCL thinks that Communicate does not exist anymore.
There currently is some momentum in the market but we / HCL can hardly participate.
Please, everyone stay healthy. That is much more important these days.
Thank you for helping the community with HCL Sametime.

  3. Maybe my former post sounds too negative. You know, this Corona thing just makes one crazy.

We are going through this, we are able to keep our systems up and running and are well prepared for home office work. HCL is part of our solution not our problems. For Sametime there has been a lot of activity since HCL took over and this remains absolutely positive.

Does that mean because we are licensed we can enable them somehow?
I have finally got my limited use SameTime V11.1 on Centos working and then find out I have full rights …. looks like I have to re-install to get the settings right .. arghh
Gotta Say HCL Support is excellent!

    • No, you have to wait for the new “Sametime Meetings Component” to get the Audio/Video Functions. It’s coming out in the next two months. I tried the beta and it looks awesome. It is worth the wait.

I also find the support very helpful. πŸ™‚
